"my best friend"
JMF Boogie Beam
May 17, 1986- June 20, 2005
It is amazing how a horse can shape your life and change things for you. Boogie came into my life when I bought his dam in foal to Whispering High Beam. I was sure I didn't want a colt only a filly but when I saw him I fell in love and knew he had to stay with me. I had never raised a foal before and I know I made all kinds of mistakes with him but with his gentle spirit and easy going ways he tolerated me and I'm sure was amused by my bumbling attempts to teach him things. He was always gentle with me and with everyone around him. I never had any fear of him and just went ahead and did what every I wanted with him. Our first ground driving was with his dam and I had no idea what I was doing. I had never driven a horse single much less double but a double harness was all I could find at the auction at the time so a team it was. I enjoyed driving so we started giving hay rides and sleigh rides for who ever wanted to come out. We had such fun doing this.
Boogie was that once in a lifetime horse for me, I did everything with him that I had ever dreamed of doing when I was a kid. I dressed him up and we rode in parades, I made funny costumes and we went to town on Halloween. He pulled the wagon, the sleigh and all kinds of things behind him with no complaints. We chased some cattle, we rode the trails, we learned together at clinics and just had fun riding around the country. If there was something I ever wanted to do with a horse I did it with Boogie. On top of it all he produced over 80 lovely foals both purebred and part bred and I know they are giving their owners the same joy I had with him.
Tuesday night June 21st was one of those beautiful nights with a
gorgeous red sunset. The air was warm and smelled sweet. I was out in the
pasture with a mare that had just foaled . I stood guard over the new foal
until her mom could get up and I was looking out over the pastures filled with
mares and foals and young stock. I could see Kruiser with his
mares and foals in the lush grass with the sun shinning down on them and it
looked like a tiny bit of heaven. I realized that Boogie gave me this and
I felt he was telling me that life goes on and he will always be with me
through his descendants. It was my childhood dream to own a black stallion
and live on a farm and raise beautiful horses and because of him I have lived my
dream. Thank you my friend it has been amazing sharing my life with you.

Boogie is a lovely example of a classic Morgan stallion. A wonderful temperament and a correct typy body . Boogie is a family horse first and my best friend. Below are a some examples of just what we do with the old boy. He has done everything we have asked of him and sired some gorgeous foals as well.

Look Ma! No Hands!

This is Boogie out in the pasture wondering why I am taking his picture yet again!

This is Boogie all cleaned up just after a parade.
.
Funny how the color changes!! These pics were all taken the same day! Must have a talk with the camera man!
.
June 2000, Harnessing Demo at the school, over 270 kids watched me toss up the heavy work harness(12 groups). By the end of the day my arms were tired and Boogie must have wondered when exactly we were going to go for a drive!!
.
Here is a neat gif thingy that Lara Poirrer did for me.

On July 7th, 2000, we were asked to lead the ball teams in the diamond for the provincial midget softball finals. Boogie really wondered about the big furry hat the bagpipe player had on!!
.
.
Its was such a beautiful day (July 20,2000) I decided to go for a ride and my daughter Spencer just had to come so dad took our pic out in the canola field. I think it looks cool!
.
.
Of course then we thought what a neat idea so we took a bunch more in the canola field!!
.
.
Chase just had to go for a ride the same day so he took Boogie for a spin too.
.
The Kids also have fun with Boogie and sometimes he smiles for the camera too!
.
Way back when Boogie was 3 my hubby thought he should take him for a ride. I think he has only been on him twice since then! My friend Marilee was also over and I asked her if she would like to ride Boogie or his mom (Boogie only had a few rides at that time) and she still picked Boogie! We went for about an hour and Boogie was perfect.
.
In 1999 we decided that boogie should get in our Christmas Card too so we put a hat on him, tossed up 3 kids and 2 cats and started taking pictures! It was pretty hard to get everyone looking at the camera at the same time though!!

I found another use for Boogie. On my son's 12 birthday we had our annual treasure hunt. The kids find clues and I decided Boogie could "hold" a clue. It was fun watching them try to get him to edge closer to the fence without going in his pen. They were stuffing him with treats and he just loved it but it did take them awhile to figure out how to get him to move sideways.
.
.
Boogie does love his gals and he runs with his mares and foals. This is Boogie and Shadow making small talk while Nitro looks on.
.
At the Ripe Young age of 16 Boogie still pulls the family around and has fun doing it. This was Feb 2002 and my kids love getting a tow from Boogie.
.
.
And Boogie also loves to pull the sleigh and his gal Sadie is more the willing to help out. They are really learning to work well together and I think they look pretty darn nice too! Boogie is on the right and if you look close at Sadie you can see she is smiling.
.
And of course when kids have never sat on a horse I had to let them get on Boogie, these 2 kids came over for their first sleigh ride and first horse ride! They were quite thrilled about it.

Boogie's Mom and my first Morgan
Nicola of Will a Way
Our Foundation Mare and the dam of our stallion Boogie was Nicola of Will a Way. {1974-1995} This solid black 15.2HH mare was my first Morgan and my best buddy. She was a gentle calm mare who always took care of her rider.
.
I used Nikki for many things, I showed her and entered in the fun classes like the ride and jump and sack race.
.
.
We also used her as a clinic horse for the neighborhood kids to learn about horses. She was a willing and patient teacher.
